Well for one, the pictures are to big image

Seriously, looks like metal flow, Die Crack, possibly struck thru or die clash, oh and a smidge of oxidation (tone).

    Did I miss something?

    I would guess die erosion.

  • My guess is the reverse die was worn and the planchet had a little dip in it.
  • It looks like very eroded dies.

  • Maybe someone thought it was a cookie and dipped it in their coffee image

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!
  • My first guess would be a lot. Great pics by the way.
  • Sorry for the large pictures. I cut them down quite a bit. What is the acceptable size?
I got the coin on eBay and did not notice the problems with it. It’s in a PCGS slab graded ms64 did they miss something?

Late die states. Also the stars and EPU are not struck up enough to fill the die, which is why they have a different texture. It is the original planchet surface you see.

There are no problems with it, nor did PCGS miss anything. It looks well within reason to call it an MS64.

Die erosion, flow lines, and so on are a part of the coin as it was struck. They are not to be considered problems. Only stuff that happens to the coin after it was struck can be considered problems.

  • Thanks. I should have chosen my words a little better. I am happy with the coin and was just curious. I’m new to collecting and taking photos. As I take close up shots I find a lot of interesting things and find it's fascinating.

Clashed and eroded dies. Seen worse clashes and far worse erosion. Nonetheless, a nice, common, honest MS64 Morgan dollar.
